PROJECTS
CRIS has been in volved in dozens of community development projects during its 26 years of operation. Some of the projects are listed below under the organization’s areas of focus.
• EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN IN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
o Formation of women-led savings and loan associations
o Training of women in water management
o Educating women about their constitutional rights and their right to participate in public policy formation.
o Increasing the participation of women in local governance
• AGRICULTURE AND SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOODS
o Improving agricultural practices to increase crop yields
o Forming women’s farming coops to promote value added processing and micro credit systems
o Animal husbandry training
o Entrepreneurial training
• HEALTH, WATER ACCESS AND SANITATION
o Providing inside latrines
o Community sanitation and trash clean-up campaigns
o Improving access to potable water
o Lobbying for health services in remote areas
o Advocating for the rights of HIV sufferers
o Campaigns to reduce HIV, malaria, and cholera.
• GOVERNANCE AND HUMAN RIGHTS
o Facilitating improved school governance by strengthening of PTA Networks that advocate for government accountability for quality education.
o Advocating for government accountability in rural service delivery
o Advocating for the rights of children and the disabled
o Forming girls’ clubs to promote rights awareness and self esteem

o Facilitating the return to school of female dropouts
o Educating girls on sexual reproductive health, assertiveness, and home economics
o Establishment of schools in remote area.
o Providing furniture, textbooks, and other teaching/learning materials to deprived schools.

o Restoration of natural ecosystems.
